Upgrading Ukraine’s Armed Forces Training Facilities
The European Union is actively supporting the comprehensive modernization of several Ukrainian Armed Forces training centers. This initiative aims to establish advanced training environments that integrate real combat experience into the preparation of servicemen. The project focuses on enhancing infrastructure, living conditions, and equipment, with Denmark providing approximately €33 million in funding.
A Letter of Intent has been signed by the defense ministries of Ukraine and Denmark to advance this modernization effort at one of the key training centers. While Denmark manages the funds, other partner countries are encouraged to contribute. The project operates under the auspices of the European External Action Service (EEAS), the Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC), and the EU Mission to Assist Ukraine with Military Training (EUMAM Ukraine).
The implementation is led by the charitable organization "Come Back Alive" in partnership with Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense. The upgrade focuses on several critical areas:
- Improving living quarters;
- Developing comfortable and functional infrastructure;
- Enhancing existing facilities.

Lyubov Galan emphasized that "training in Ukraine forms an essential pillar of defense, just as vital as ammunition and equipment, because weapons are ineffective without well-prepared personnel." The modernization of these centers is therefore a pivotal step in elevating the quality of Ukraine’s military training.
This initiative highlights the collaborative efforts between Ukraine and its international partners to uphold high standards in military preparedness amid ongoing security challenges. The backing from the EU and Denmark underscores a broader commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and may influence the future trajectory of Ukraine-EU relations.
