Bolstering Kyiv's Power Supply
The European Union and its partners are supplying Kyiv with generators and other equipment to support its energy infrastructure. This assistance is critical as Ukraine's power grid faces systematic attacks during winter. Specifically, the EU is providing the capital with 218 generators from its strategic civil protection reserve (rescEU), with the European Commission funding and coordinating the effort. The first batch of 177 units has already arrived, with a second shipment of 41 generators expected on January 6. Of these units:
- 135 power sources have a capacity of 20 kW;
- 42 units have a capacity of 22 kW.
Additional Generator Shipments Arrive
Further international support continues to reach the city. On February 4, 30 generators from France arrived and will be directed to key infrastructure sites. Earlier, on January 30, Kyiv received 162 electricity generators and 846 electric heaters from the Krakow Archdiocese, destined for the Troieshchyna district and other areas. Notably, Catholic communities in Krakow and Lodz plan to donate their Sunday collection on February 1.
In other recent deliveries, the first 60 of a planned 90 generators from Warsaw's city hall arrived in Kyiv late last week. At the beginning of last week, the city also received 130 generators of various capacities through the 'Warmth from Poland for Kyiv' campaign. This initiative saw 60,000 Poles donate nearly 2 million euros in just 10 days. The incoming generators will be used to connect to individual heating points in apartment buildings where possible.
