Diplomatic Initiative Between the EU and Russia Moves Forward
European Council President Antonio Costa has outlined a plan to establish a direct diplomatic line between the European Union and Russia. He emphasized that this channel is meant solely to receive signals from Moscow and convey the EU's stance, not to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine. Costa acknowledged that there are currently no signs Russia is ready for talks. He is coordinating this effort with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who stressed that Kyiv must retain the leading role in any negotiations.
EU Reaffirms Support for Ukraine
Speaking at a press conference in Brussels, Costa stated:
“The European Union stands with Ukraine. We are with Ukraine during the war, and we will be with Ukraine after the war.” - Antonio Costa
This statement reinforces the EU's commitment to backing Ukraine throughout the conflict. He added that “the Coalition of the Willing and its leaders also have a role to play on security guarantees. At the same time, the interests of the European Union must be protected by EU institutions in accordance with the Union’s treaties.”

They claimed they were not informed about the talks, raising concerns among their governments.
