Estonia's Position on Supporting Ukraine

Estonia has expressed its position on the need to increase pressure on Russia and military support for Ukraine to achieve serious peace negotiations with the Kremlin. Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasized that only such actions can compel Russia to pay attention to the possibility of a peaceful resolution of the conflict. On December 29, Tsahkna held a phone conversation with Ukrainian colleague Andrii Sybiha, during which the aspects of peace negotiations and the need for pressure on the aggressor were discussed.

The Situation in Ukraine and International Efforts

The situation in Ukraine remains complicated, as Russia continues airstrikes on residential areas of Ukrainian cities and inflicts significant damage on energy infrastructure. In this regard, the European Union is working on the 20th package of sanctions aimed at limiting Russia's economic capabilities. Tsahkna noted that as long as Russia does not demonstrate a genuine readiness for a just and sustainable peace, the international community's efforts must focus on supporting Ukraine.

In addition to this, former President of the European Council Donald Tusk pointed out that peace negotiations regarding Ukraine are still far from completion, despite the involvement of the USA in providing security guarantees. Thus, the Estonian side emphasizes the importance of active actions in international politics to ensure stability and peace in the region.

This statement from Estonia reflects the growing concern of the Baltic states regarding security in the region as well as the need to consolidate international support for Ukraine. In the context of continued aggression from Russia, it is important for the international community to maintain unity in its policy towards countering threats arising from the Kremlin.
