Estonian Foreign Ministry Criticizes May 9 Parade in Moscow
Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sharply criticized Russia’s May 9 Victory Day parade in Moscow, arguing that the event laid bare President Vladimir Putin’s fragility and deepening internal crises. According to Estonian Foreign Ministry Chancellor Jonatan Vseviov, the parade’s lack of military hardware directly reflects the heavy losses Russia has suffered in the war. The 45-minute ceremony featured no display of tanks, missiles, or other armored vehicles—a stark omission that Vseviov says underscores the dire straits into which Putin has led the country. This criticism comes amid heightened regional tensions, with Baltic states closely monitoring Russia’s military posture.
The parade was held under unprecedented security measures, signaling elevated domestic anxiety. Vseviov also noted that ahead of the event, Putin had reportedly reached out to former U.S. President Donald Trump to request mediation in organizing the parade.

The Estonian chancellor further commented on Russia’s broader situation, stating that
“as a symbol, it quite clearly reflects the mess Russia, under Putin’s leadership, has gotten itself into” – Jonatan Vseviov.He emphasized that “no energy is coming out of there anymore,” pointing to what he sees as clear signs of systemic crisis. Vseviov expressed bewilderment at how a nation aspiring to empire status behaves toward its small neighbor, adding that “we shouldn’t be afraid of such things—they are ridiculous attempts to create confusion and division.”
A concert held in Ivangorod was also broadcast toward the Estonian border city of Narva, highlighting how events in Russia ripple into neighboring countries.
