The Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Budgetary Control, Niklas Herbst, expressed his opinion on the statements made by Hungarian officials regarding the allocation of a share of the EU budget for Ukraine. He stated during his visit to Kyiv that the words of Hungarian officials should be taken with a certain degree of skepticism.
'Unfortunately, it is not possible to trust or take for granted every word that comes from the mouths of Hungarian officials,' Herbst stated.
The Hungarian Minister for European Affairs, Janos Baki, claimed that a significant amount of EU budget funds would be spent to benefit Ukraine. However, Herbst considers such statements unfounded and untrue, adding with sarcasm: 'I would like to see his calculations.'
Hungary claims that 20% of the next EU budget should be allocated for Ukraine. However, the European Parliament representative urged caution with such statements and advised not to take them too seriously.
