European Solidarity’s Stance on the 2027 State Budget
MP Nina Yuzhanina from the European Solidarity faction has proposed increasing the share of the so-called 'military' personal income tax (PIT) that is directly allocated to military units from the current 10% to 20% or even 30%. These amendments were submitted by members of her party to the draft State Budget for 2027 (No. 16000). Party leader Petro Poroshenko emphasized the need to eliminate non-essential budget items and redirect an additional 500 billion UAH toward defense spending.
European Solidarity’s Main Demands
- Inject an extra 500 billion UAH into purchasing weapons and defense technologies;
- Allocate 30% of the 'military' PIT directly to frontline brigades;
- Implement indexation of military personnel’s salaries;
- Cut non-priority and propaganda-related expenditures from the state budget.
"Soldiers are still forced to contribute from their own salaries for fuel, tires, vehicle repairs, and other unit needs! A soldier's salary should not be a supplementary source of funding for the army. That is why funds must go straight to the brigades."
- Nina Yuzhanina
In addition, European Solidarity is calling for a review of Kyiv’s budget to allocate at least 1 billion UAH for air defense and army requirements. Party deputies have also raised public inquiries about the government's handling of the 'military' PIT funds received by the State Special Communications Service in 2026, questioning the actual outcomes of procurement and the speed at which equipment reaches the frontlines. They specifically challenge why frontline units receive only one-tenth of these revenues.
These initiatives by European Solidarity aim to boost military funding, improve service conditions for soldiers, and ensure more efficient management of state defense resources.
Against the backdrop of ongoing military aggression, these proposals reflect urgent needs of Ukraine’s armed forces. Increasing defense financing and prioritizing direct support to military units can significantly enhance combat readiness. With rapidly evolving threats, the prudent allocation of budget funds is vital for securing the nation and protecting its citizens.
In light of these proposals, it is crucial to understand the broader context of European Solidarity’s initiatives aimed at enhancing Ukraine's defense capabilities. The party's recent push for a comprehensive budget revision not only addresses immediate military funding needs but also emphasizes strengthening the home front and international alliances.
