European states prepare military presence in Ukraine: what forces may be deployed

Європейські країни готують до відправки військові контингенти в Україну: які підрозділи можуть бути залучені.

Military presence of European states in Ukraine

European states are adjusting plans for military presence in Ukraine. The possibilities of sending military contingents from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Lithuania are being discussed in the event of a peace agreement. In particular, the United Kingdom and France are considering sending up to 15,000 troops to Ukraine. However, the actual contribution from London may not exceed 7,500 servicemen, considering the size of the British regular army, which consists of about 71,000 trained fighters.

Plans of other European countries

France plans to deploy its units in the western regions of Ukraine, which could strengthen military presence in the west of the country. Germany, in turn, is considering the possibility of deploying its forces near the Ukrainian borders, particularly on the territory of Poland or Romania. This indicates an intensification of efforts by European countries to ensure security in the region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a declaration of intent to deploy a multinational military contingent after a ceasefire, which opens up new prospects for international cooperation in the field of security. Lithuania also expressed its intention to send several hundred of its servicemen to Ukraine as part of international security guarantees. As noted by Robertas Kaunas,

“Lithuania is considering the possibility of sending several hundred of its servicemen to Ukraine as part of international security guarantees in the event of a peace agreement.”

This emphasizes the growing readiness of European countries for active actions in ensuring stability in Ukraine.

The situation in Ukraine remains tense, and international support is critically important for stabilizing the region. The deployment of military contingents from European countries may become an important element in strengthening the country's security, especially in the context of a potential peace agreement. It also indicates an increasing unity among European states on security and defense issues, which may affect the further development of events in the region.
