FAO handed over 615 grain storage units to farmers in frontline regions: how this will preserve the harvest

ФАО передало 615 ємностей для зберігання зерна аграріям в зонах конфлікту: як це допоможе зберегти врожай.

FAO assistance to Ukrainian farmers

FAO transferred 615 modular grain storage units to farmers from frontline regions of Ukraine as part of the 2025 initiative. This assistance was implemented with the support of Canada and Japan. Each of the new storage units is designed to store 1000 tons of grain, which will significantly support farmers in wartime conditions.

Distribution of modular storage units

In total, farmers in seven regions of Ukraine received modular storage units. The largest number of units was transferred to:

  • Mykolaiv region — 128
  • Kharkiv region — 124 units
  • Dnipropetrovsk region — 116 units
  • Odesa region — 87
  • Kirovohrad region — 84
  • Chernigiv region — 62
  • Kherson region — 14 units

These actions are aimed at preserving the harvest and supporting the agricultural sector during a difficult time for the country.

FAO is actively working to ensure food security in Ukraine. Since the beginning of Russia's invasion in 2022, the organization has transferred over 37,000 grain sleeves and 105 sets of equipment. In total, since the start of the initiative, 859 modular storage units have been handed over, allowing for the preservation of over 8 million tons of grain.

“These storage units give Ukrainian farmers what is especially needed today in times of war — stability and the ability to look to the future with hope.” — Shakhnosa Muminova

The transfer of modular grain storage units from FAO is an important step in supporting Ukrainian farmers who face numerous challenges due to the war. Preserving the harvest and the ability to store it for a long period is critically important for ensuring food security in the country, as well as for supporting the economies of regions affected by hostilities. International assistance, particularly from Canada and Japan, demonstrates the world's solidarity with Ukraine during this difficult period.
