Igor Musiy’s Unique Farm

Located in the village of Lytovezh in Volyn, Igor Musiy has established a distinctive farm home to ostriches, peacocks, and ornamental chickens. Open to the public without an entry fee, the farm is set to expand its facilities to offer a peaceful retreat specifically for military personnel and veterans. Recently, the farm celebrated the hatching of an ostrich chick named Krapochka, born from five eggs incubated on-site.

Caring for the Birds

Before the full-scale war began, Igor acquired six ostriches and has since become self-taught in their care. He feeds the birds twice daily, morning and evening, with a diet primarily consisting of:

  • grain
  • apples
  • cabbage

Krapochka, the young ostrich, spends some of its time indoors where mirrors help ease its loneliness. Igor shares,

“It’s like caring for a small child. You watch over it, carry it around. It misses company. If there were another Krapochka, it would be so much happier.”

Children visiting the farm often name the birds. For example, one ostrich was named Yulia after a girl who left a keychain behind. Among the peacocks, there are pairs like Kira and Kai, who are parents to younger birds. Igor welcomes visitors for free, explaining that during times of war, charging admission doesn’t feel appropriate. He adds,

“It’s tough—no, that’s an understatement. You have to constantly watch over them, feed them, provide water—it’s a responsibility that binds you.”

Igor is now working on creating a dedicated space on the farm where soldiers and veterans can find rest and tranquility. He notes,

“With the war ongoing, my hope is to finish this project while my health allows, so the guys have a place to relax. What does a person really need? Peace and quiet.”

The farm also houses dogs, adding to the welcoming and cozy atmosphere. For Igor, this farm is more than an agricultural venture—it’s a sanctuary where visitors can escape daily stresses and reconnect with nature and its creatures.

Igor Musiy’s farm stands as a powerful example of local dedication that not only supports the community’s economy but also fosters a positive environment for social interaction and healing. During challenging times of conflict, such spaces provide essential comfort and solace. The planned expansion aimed at serving military members and veterans promises to be a vital resource for restoration and peaceful respite amidst the natural surroundings.
