Stadium Entry Rules for Bottles Revised
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has partially relaxed its prohibition on bringing bottles into venues for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Under the updated policy, fans may now carry one sealed, single-use plastic bottle made of soft material, with a capacity of no more than 20 ounces (approximately 590 ml). However, rigid, reusable bottles—even if transparent or empty—remain strictly forbidden.
Keeping Fans Comfortable in Summer Heat
Scheduled from June 11 to July 19 across 16 stadiums—most of them open-air and located in regions where summer temperatures will exceed 25°C—the tournament poses significant heat challenges. To address this, FIFA and host cities plan to set up cooling areas featuring tents, water misters, and free hydration stations. These measures aim to ensure spectator comfort during hot match days.
Earlier, FIFA had banned all bottles, cups, cans, and thermoses, causing considerable inconvenience for attendees. Heimo Schirgi, the World Cup's operations director, explained the rationale:
'this restriction is driven solely by safety concerns for players and spectators, as solid objects can cause injury if thrown in the stands or onto the field.'It is also worth noting that bottled water prices inside the arenas will not be inflated, a move intended to make water more accessible to everyone at the matches.
This adjustment to the bottle policy reflects FIFA's ongoing efforts to balance comfort and security during the championship. Given the high summer temperatures expected, organizers are striving to create favorable conditions for fans, which could enhance the overall event experience.
