MetLife Stadium grass up for grabs
FIFA has started selling patches of turf from MetLife Stadium, the venue that will host the 2026 World Cup final. Located in East Rutherford, just outside New York City, the stadium is set to stage football’s biggest match on July 19, 2026. Each piece of the playing surface is priced at $450, with special collector bundles ranging from $900 to $3,000.
Each turf package includes an acrylic casing featuring the 2026 World Cup logo, the final venue, the match date, and the final score. Buyers also receive a USB drive containing a film about the tournament. FIFA expects to generate around $11 million if all turf pieces and bundles are sold. However, these items are only available to customers in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
Kylian Mbappé sets new World Cup milestone
Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé has become the youngest player in history to appear in 20 World Cup matches. He started in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinal against Morocco, which also fell on his 27th birthday. With that appearance, Mbappé matched the French national record for most tournament games, previously held by Hugo Lloris, who played across four World Cups in 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022. Mbappé, who has featured in three tournaments—2018, 2022, and 2026—had already recorded seven goals and two assists heading into the Morocco match.
Selling turf from the 2026 World Cup final stadium is part of FIFA’s broader revenue strategy, highlighting just how central this tournament is to global football.
Given Mbappé’s popularity and achievements, interest in the event is likely to rise, potentially boosting demand for World Cup-related collectibles. This could further shape FIFA’s commercial initiatives and deepen fan engagement with football culture.
