Romania Lays Out New Entry Rules for Philippine Passport Holders After Joining Schengen

Румунія вводить нові правила в'їзду для власників філіппінських паспортів після вступу до Шенгенської зони.

How Philippine Citizens Can Apply for a Schengen Visa to Romania

Romania's government has issued a detailed guide for Philippine nationals seeking a Schengen visa to visit the country for tourism. Since Romania became part of the Schengen Area, Filipinos planning a trip there must now apply for a short-stay Schengen visa.

This visa allows stays in Romania of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Applicants should be aware that the standard visa fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 12. The fee is non-refundable if the visa is denied. Processing typically takes 15 calendar days.

Steps to Submit Your Application

The visa application process involves several key steps:

  • Determine the correct visa type for your visit.
  • Register online to start and process your application.
  • Wait for an appointment, then attend it.
  • Collect the outcome of your visa application.

To ensure a successful submission, applicants must prepare a set of required documents. Key requirements include:

  • A completed visa application form.
  • Two passport-sized photos (3 cm x 4 cm) on a white background.
  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure date, issued within the last 10 years.
  • Hotel vouchers covering the entire stay.
  • Flight tickets or a flight reservation.
  • Proof of financial means (at least €50 per day of stay or a total of €500).
  • Travel insurance with minimum coverage of €30,000.
  • Documents showing strong ties to your home country.

Employed applicants must provide an employment certificate and approved leave. Self-employed individuals need to submit copies of SEC registration, business registration, and income tax returns. Students should present an enrollment certificate, approved leave, and an affidavit of support from a parent or guardian. For minors, a birth certificate and certified copies of both parents' IDs or passports are required.

Schengen visa applications can be submitted no earlier than six months before the intended trip. Each traveler must register and apply individually. Applicants can contact the Romanian Embassy in Manila, located at 150 Legazpi Street, G.C. Corporate Plaza, 6th Floor, Legazpi Village, Makati City, Philippines. The consular section is open only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 15:00 to 17:00. For more information, email manila@mae.ro or call +63 02 843 9014.

This move by the Romanian government reflects its goal to attract more tourists from the Philippines by making travel more accessible and simplifying the visa process. Clear guidelines like these can help Filipinos plan their trips to Romania more easily and boost the country's tourism sector overall.
