FC Karpaty (Lviv) has appointed a new team captain in the wake of a controversy involving the use of the Russian language. The club announced on its official Facebook page that Vladyslav Babohlo will now lead the side. This decision follows an incident where outgoing captain Denys Miroshnychenko addressed the team in Russian during a live broadcast of a friendly match against the Swedish club GAIS. The New Captain and Team Updates
The new captain is 27-year-old central defender Vladyslav Babohlo, who joined Karpaty in the summer of 2023. Since his arrival, he has made 64 appearances, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists. Babohlo had previously worn the captain's armband in several Ukrainian Premier League matches. He was selected for the role through a team vote, with Ambrosiy Chachua and Edson named as vice-captains.
In a separate development, the club confirmed the departure of defensive midfielder Pablo Álvarez, who left as a free agent. The 28-year-old Spaniard will continue his career with the Kazakh club Aktobe.
