Executive Committee Meeting of the Ukrainian Athletics Federation

On November 5, the Executive Committee of the Ukrainian Athletics Federation (UAF) approved new standardized eligibility criteria and age restrictions for participants in national and all-Ukrainian athletics competitions. The meeting also included discussions on proposed amendments to Ukraine's Unified Sports Classification system for Olympic sports.

Age Divisions and Entry Requirements

It was decided that athletes in the under-14 (U14) category will only be permitted to compete in events designated for their age group. This category will have a schedule of eight national and all-Ukrainian competitions annually. Competitors in the under-16 (U16) group will also be limited to their age category’s events, with an increased number of opportunities to compete during the summer season. Athletes aged under-18 (U18) will be eligible to participate only in competitions for U18 and under-20 (U20) categories.

For adult athletes and those in the U20 and U23 categories, entry to U23 and senior-level events requires holding at least a first-class sports qualification. This qualification must be earned within the current year in the relevant athletics discipline at UAF-sanctioned events or be officially recorded in the UAF's statistics.

Additionally, the meeting reviewed suggestions from the Head Coaches’ Council regarding updates to the Unified Sports Classification of Ukraine for Olympic disciplines. These proposed changes respond to recent revisions in the competition programs set by World Athletics and European Athletics.

The newly established eligibility conditions and age limits aim to enhance competition quality and encourage greater specialization as athletes progress through different stages of their development.

These adjustments provide young athletes with more targeted competitive opportunities to refine their skills within their specific age groups. Updating the national sports classification system also reflects Ukraine’s commitment to aligning its athletics framework with international standards, a crucial step in advancing the sport domestically.
