Yurko Yurchenko’s Account of the Incident at the Poland-Ukraine Border

Yurko Yurchenko, lead singer of the Ukrainian rock band Yurcash, has publicly criticized Polish border guards for what he describes as 'arrogant behavior' during an excessively thorough inspection. According to Yurchenko, when the band crossed the Ukrainian-Polish border, guards completely dismantled the tour bus, a move that sparked his outrage.

“They stopped us and took the entire bus apart. They’d latch onto any excuse and immediately send us to the pit,” he stated.

Contrast with Ukrainian Border Personnel and Regional Security Concerns

In contrast, Yurchenko noted that he has never observed such conduct from Ukrainian border officials.

“I’ll be honest—I know many people in the top leadership. They always help us because they know we’re a band that frequently tours,” he emphasized.
The singer acknowledged the vital role of border guards, adding that 'they carry out a huge job and a great mission.'

Yurchenko also highlighted that since the war began, Yurcash has performed in nearly every region. He referenced Belarus, calling it 'not exactly friendly neighbors.' Expressing concern over the broader conflict, he remarked:

  • “Border guards aren’t just at checkpoints.”
  • “We have neighbors who are not exactly friendly, with whom we haven’t yet gone to war. And God willing, we won’t. I’m talking about Belarus.”

Concluding, Yurchenko stressed that the war in Ukraine will last a long time and that frontline losses are extremely heavy.

Yurchenko’s comments highlight the challenges Ukrainian artists face while touring abroad, especially amid wartime. The situation at the Polish border may point to tensions between the two countries, potentially affecting cultural exchanges and cooperation. Furthermore, the artist’s concerns about Belarus underscore ongoing regional security issues that remain a pressing topic for Ukraine in the current geopolitical climate.
