Rafa Mir Trial
A Spanish footballer from Elche, Rafa Mir, has been handed an eight-and-a-half-year prison sentence for rape. The court found him guilty of sexual assault and causing bodily harm. A second individual involved in the case received a two-year prison term for rape and violating moral standards. The verdict is not yet final, and the 28-year-old Mir retains the right to appeal the court's decision. Additionally, he has been ordered to pay a fine of 64,000 euros.
The legal proceedings stretched over several years, with Mir first being taken into police custody in 2024. The assault took place at a party held at the footballer's residence. Mir and his associate were accused of raping two young women. During the 2025/26 season, Mir played 29 matches for Elche, scoring 8 goals.
Death of Georgiy Kamalov
Separately, news has emerged of the death of Russian occupier Georgiy Kamalov, aged 46. Kamalov played for the team Era Vladivostok from 2003 to 2011. After ending his playing career due to an injury, he transitioned into coaching, beginning his work within the Era system. In recent years, Kamalov had been coaching the football club Anri, which managed to rise to the level of the Russian Cup.
Dmitry Nizovtsev, commenting on the situation, noted: 'He was up to his ears in debt. That's why he signed the contract. He got paid and settled his debts. But then he had to go off to war. And die. At 46 years old. Such is the bleakness. While some are waiting for the Champions League draw and the World Cup, a football coach from the Russian hinterlands went off and got himself killed.'

Meanwhile, the death of Georgiy Kamalov and his difficult post-career life reflect the challenges athletes face after leaving sports, particularly amid economic hardship.
