Tragedy Strikes the Football World

In Turkey, a devastating incident has claimed the life of young footballer Abdullah Sultanoglu, who played for Ankara-based club Keçiörengücü. The 16-year-old athlete succumbed to injuries sustained in a traffic accident on May 16, 2026. While riding a motorcycle, he collided with a car. Following the crash, he was rushed to the hospital and placed in intensive care. Medical staff fought to save him for three days, but tragically, their efforts were unsuccessful. Sultanoglu’s funeral took place on May 19. An investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing.

Meanwhile, in the occupied city of Luhansk, former Zorya goalkeeper Vasyl Zanin died in a fire at his home. Born on March 10, 1962, in Luhansk, Zanin was a product of the Zorya youth system. He played for the senior team from 1985 to 1986, making 53 appearances and conceding 45 goals. In 1986, he became champion of the Ukrainian SSR and the Soviet Second League. Over the course of his career, he also played for the following clubs:
