G7+ condemned Russia's strikes on Ukraine's energy: what ministers discussed

Міністри G7+ висловили протест проти агресивних атак Росії на енергетичну інфраструктуру України.

Support for Ukraine's Energy Security

Participants of the G7+ Ukraine Energy Coordination Group at the ministerial meeting on December 12, 2025, confirmed their support for Ukraine's energy security and condemned Russia's strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The co-chairs of the meeting were Kaja Kallas and Anita Anand, with participants including Yulia Svyrydenko and Dan Jørgensen. The discussions took place against the backdrop of ongoing aggression, as Russia has been damaging Ukraine's energy infrastructure for almost four years.

Ukraine's Energy Resource Needs

The meeting participants focused on Ukraine's needs for gas and electricity for the winter of 2025-2026. This issue became particularly relevant in light of recent events, including the attack that Russia carried out on the Odesa region on the night of December 13. The participants also discussed steps to strengthen Ukraine's resilience, which included:

  • proposals to enhance air defense;
  • preservation of repair and restoration capabilities;
  • ensuring sufficient volumes of gas and electricity.

It is noteworthy that before the meeting, the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2025 took place in Rome, and the next conference, URC 2026, is scheduled to be held in Poland. These events underscore the international support for Ukraine in its efforts to restore energy infrastructure and ensure energy security.

This meeting demonstrates the growing international solidarity with Ukraine amid constant threats from Russia.

Support for energy security is critically important for the stability of the country, especially considering the winter when energy resources become even more essential. The upcoming conferences also indicate the durability of international efforts in restoring and strengthening Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
