Dispute between Harik Korogodskiy and Veronika Olshanska
Harik Korogodskiy and Veronika Olshanska became participants in a public communication on social networks, which began after businessman Korogodskiy stated that he communicates in Russian at home. His statements outraged Olshanska, a public figure and language activist, who decided to appeal to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) regarding Korogodskiy's remarks.
Korogodskiy, a Ukrainian businessman, noted that he is conducting his 333rd lesson in the Ukrainian language. However, he also mentioned that at home he communicates exclusively in Russian with his family. In response to his statement, Olshanska expressed her concern and emphasized that 'supporting the Russian language is a disgrace and a threat to our national security.' She also pointed out that, in her opinion, Korogodskiy is 'Russifying his children' and presenting it as the norm.
Discussion on the language issue in Ukraine
Korogodskiy claims that his children are bilingual, speaking both Ukrainian and Russian, and are also studying English. Many of his followers supported the businessman in the comments to his post. Responding to the criticism, Korogodskiy noted:
Veronika, it's a bit too early to argue with me. — Harik Korogodskiy
This dispute attracted public attention and highlighted the importance of the language issue in Ukraine, where the discussion about the role of the Ukrainian and Russian languages in everyday life continues.
In Ukraine, the language issue remains relevant and controversial, especially in the context of national identity and security. Statements by public figures like Korogodskiy can have a significant impact on public opinion and emphasize the divide between supporters of the Ukrainian language and those who support Russian. This situation also reflects larger sociocultural changes in the country, occurring against the backdrop of political and historical challenges.
