New Tariff for Residential Gas Consumers
Ukraine's state-owned energy company, Naftogaz, has established a fixed tariff for household gas consumers that will remain in effect until April 30, 2026. Under this new pricing plan, the company's customers will pay 7.96 hryvnias per cubic meter of gas, with the rate taking effect in February 2026. This move is designed to ensure a stable gas supply for the public amid the ongoing challenges facing the nation. The price freeze provides households with long-term certainty on a major utility cost.
Talks on Rebuilding Damaged Gas Infrastructure
On January 29, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Naftogaz Chairman Serhiy Koretskyi. The primary focus of their discussion was the impact of attacks on Ukraine's oil and gas infrastructure and the ongoing process of restoring these critical facilities. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to all repair crews and company specialists for their round-the-clock work and the results they have achieved.
In a related development, the operators of the Polish and Ukrainian gas transmission systems, Gaz-System and the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine, have agreed to a phased increase in the capacity for importing gas from Poland into Ukraine. Starting in early February 2026, the capacity in this direction will rise from 15.3 million cubic meters to 18.4 million cubic meters per day. This enhancement will contribute to the stability and reliability of gas supplies for Ukrainian consumers, reducing reliance on other routes.
The implementation of the new gas tariff and the expansion of import capacity from Poland highlight the Ukrainian government's efforts to bolster the country's energy security in the face of external pressures. Given the state of the nation's energy infrastructure, ensuring a stable gas supply for households remains a top priority, requiring coordinated action between the state and energy companies. Both of these measures are likely to have a significant impact on Ukraine's economic situation and the standard of living for its citizens.
