IAEA calls for the return of control over ZNPP to Ukraine
At the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency, a resolution 'Nuclear safety, physical nuclear safety, and guarantees in Ukraine' was adopted. This document was supported by 62 member states of the IAEA, calling on the Russian Federation to return control of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) to Ukraine. This was reported by 'Glavkom' referring to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
The resolution was proposed by Ukraine with the support of its international partners. This has become another indication of the unacceptability of Russia's actions that violate the nuclear safety of the entire Europe.
“We thank every country that supported this important document. 62 votes in favor are a clear signal from the civilized world: nuclear terrorism is unacceptable, and the Zaporizhzhia NPP occupied by Russia must be immediately returned under the control of Ukraine”, - said the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Svitlana Hrynchuk.
The resolution calls for the withdrawal of all illegal personnel from the ZNPP and the establishment of full Ukrainian control over nuclear facilities in the country.
Importance of IAEA mission at ZNPP
The resolution also emphasizes the importance of continuing the IAEA mission at the ZNPP, despite Russia's attempts to obstruct its work. The presence of IAEA experts ensures detection and response to all incidents, risks, and attacks at the international level. The resolution also reminds of Russian actions in the Chernobyl zone and the damage to the New Safe Confinement, creating additional threats to nuclear safety.
It emphasizes the importance of returning control of the ZNPP to Ukraine and continuing the IAEA mission to ensure the safety of nuclear facilities in the country.
