Ukrainian Military Reports 109 Frontline Clashes Amid Heavy Russian Assaults

Frontline Situation as of January 28

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 109 combat engagements were recorded across the front as of January 28. The Russian forces launched a concentrated assault involving missiles, airstrikes, and kamikaze drones, indicating a significant escalation in hostilities and an intensification of enemy attacks. This surge in violence comes as the conflict enters its 1435th day, with no signs of abatement.

The General Staff reported the following enemy actions:

  • 1 missile strike, using 1 missile;
  • 63 airstrikes, during which 159 guided aerial bombs were dropped;
  • 4,523 kamikaze drone attacks;
  • 2,912 artillery and mortar strikes on Ukrainian settlements and military positions.

The frontline situation remains highly tense on the 1435th day of the full-scale war in Ukraine.

Analysis of Combat Operations

Numerous clashes occurred across various sectors of the front. On the South-Slobozhanske direction, the enemy attacked 14 times and conducted 74 bombardments, including 3 using multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS). Simultaneously, Russian forces attempted assaults on positions near:

  • Starytsia;
  • Prylipka;
  • Obukhivka;
  • Zelene;
  • Vovchanski Khutory;
  • Kolodyazne;
  • Kutkivka.

Thirteen of these attacks were repelled. On the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled 2 enemy assaults near Radkivka and Pishchane.

On the Lyman direction, 7 attacks were halted in the area of Myrne, as well as in the directions of Lyman, Drobysheve, and Stavky. On the Sloviansk direction, 6 enemy attempts to advance near Yampil, Sviatopokrovske, and Rai-Oleksandrivka were repelled, with one engagement ongoing. The Kramatorsk direction saw no offensive actions by the enemy.

On the Kostiantynivka direction, 9 assaults occurred near Kostiantynivka, Predtechynoho, Pleshiivka, and Sofiiivka. On the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy made 22 attacks in an attempt to advance near Rodynske, Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, Kotlyne, Molodetske, Filiia, and Dachne. On the Oleksandrivske direction, 1 attack towards Yegorivka was stopped, and an airstrike was recorded on Havrylivka.

On the Huliaipole direction, 11 attacks were repelled in the area of Huliaipole and Myrne, with one battle continuing. Airstrikes were recorded on Ternuvate, Zaliznychne, Verkhnia Tersa, Vozdvyzhivka, Barvinivka, Dolynka, and Charivne. On the Orikhiv direction, the enemy conducted 2 attacks in the area of Stepnohirsk and towards Prymorske. Meanwhile, no offensive actions were conducted on the Dnipro River direction.

Overall, the situation on the front remains complex, with significant intensity in combat operations continuing across many sectors.

The current intensification of hostilities underscores the continuation of a conflict now in its fifth year. The high volume of attacks, including the extensive use of drones and airpower, points to escalating tensions between the warring sides.

This escalation in fighting is likely to influence the future course of military action in Ukraine and may prompt renewed international initiatives aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
