Updated Russian Military Losses Revealed

On the morning of June 21, 2026, Ukraine's General Staff of the Armed Forces released fresh data on Russian troop losses. This update comes as the full-scale war reaches its 1,579th day, with Moscow's forces continuing to suffer heavy attrition across multiple domains. For context, these figures are part of Ukraine's daily tracking of enemy losses, which have been a key metric since the invasion began.

As of June 21, 2026, total Russian personnel losses have climbed to 1,391,950, with 1,290 killed in just the past 24 hours. In terms of equipment, the destruction of Russian military hardware remains significant:

  • Tanks: 12,049 units (+8)
  • Armored combat vehicles: 24,797 units (+10)
  • Artillery systems: 44,479 units (+93)
  • Multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS): 1,885 units (+2)
  • Air defense systems: 1,435 units (+2)

In the air component, Russian forces have lost 436 aircraft, 353 helicopters, and 364,149 tactical-level unmanned aerial vehicles (+2,346). Ground robotic systems have reached 1,703 destroyed (+8). Additionally, Russian troops have suffered losses in other key areas:

  • Cruise missiles: 4,787
  • Ships and boats: 33
  • Submarines: 2

Regarding vehicles, Russian forces have lost 109,817 units (+475), along with 4,316 units of specialized equipment (+2).

Estimated Financial Toll

The estimated cost of Russia's losses in missile and drone systems is roughly $14.36 billion for cruise missiles and $10.92 billion for drones. In aviation, aircraft losses amount to about $13.08 billion, while helicopter losses total $5.29 billion. For armored vehicles and artillery, the estimated losses are:

  • $30.12 billion for tanks
  • $66.71 billion for artillery systems
  • $14.87 billion for armored combat vehicles

The value of destroyed air defense and electronic warfare systems is estimated at $21.52 billion, while naval losses total $1.98 billion for ships and $600 million for submarines.

These calculations are approximate, as only the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces knows the exact breakdown by modification of destroyed equipment.

The updated loss figures underscore the ongoing intensity of combat operations and their systematic impact on Russian personnel and equipment. The high numbers of casualties and destroyed hardware indicate that the frontline remains volatile, with Ukrainian forces continuing to actively defend the country's territorial integrity.
