Updated Figures on Russian Invasion Losses
On June 20, 2026—marking the 1,578th day of the full-scale war in Ukraine—the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released its latest assessment of Russian military losses, including destroyed equipment and estimated financial damage. These updates provide a snapshot of the ongoing conflict's toll on personnel and hardware.
According to the General Staff, Russia has lost approximately 1,390,660 soldiers, an increase of 1,240 since June 19, 2026. Equipment destruction has also been substantial. Key losses include:
- 12,041 tanks destroyed (up by 1)
- 24,787 armored fighting vehicles (up by 4)
- 44,386 artillery systems (up by 88)
- 1,883 multiple launch rocket systems (up by 2)
- 1,433 air defense systems (up by 1)
In the aviation sector, Russia has lost 436 aircraft and 353 helicopters—both unchanged from the previous count. Naval losses include 33 ships or boats and 2 submarines, also unchanged. Meanwhile, 1,695 ground robotic systems (up by 7) and 361,803 tactical-level unmanned aerial vehicles (up by 2,246) have been destroyed. Additional losses include 4,787 cruise missiles, 109,342 vehicles and fuel tankers (up by 476), and 4,314 units of specialized equipment (up by 5).
Estimated Financial Cost of Losses
The estimated value of Russia's destroyed missile systems and drones is roughly $14.36 billion for cruise missiles and $10.85 billion for UAVs. Aviation and helicopter losses are valued at approximately $13.08 billion for aircraft and $5.29 billion for helicopters. In armored vehicles and artillery, losses are estimated at $30.10 billion for tanks, $66.57 billion for artillery systems, and $14.87 billion for armored fighting vehicles. Air defense and electronic warfare system losses amount to about $21.49 billion. Naval losses are estimated at $1.98 billion for ships or boats and $600 million for submarines.
“These calculations are approximate, as only the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine knows the exact breakdown by modification of destroyed equipment,” the General Staff stated.
