Volodymyr Derenko is a true hero without weapons, who undertakes a great mission as the head of the chemical and radiation safety sector of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Odesa region. He began his career in Donetsk region, where he was born and raised, and after graduating from university, he lived and worked in the city of Selydove.

"Being a rescuer was my childhood dream. It is such a noble profession! My father was also connected to this field, and I aspired to follow his example," says Volodymyr.

At just 29 years old, Volodymyr Derenko has already experienced numerous trials related to war and difficult decisions. He talked about the occupation of his hometown by the Russian army, about daily work under shelling in the very heart of the combat actions in Donetsk region, about the pain for people who were forced to flee from the war, and about his future in Odesa.

During his work, Volodymyr faced the full scale of the invasion. Even when enemy troops were very close, he and his colleagues continued to save lives, extinguish fires, and evacuate people.

It is hard to imagine how brave and strong people like Volodymyr Derenko must be, who fight at the front lines against dangers to save the lives and property of others. Their actions deserve respect and gratitude.
