Ukrainian soldiers expressed their wish to improve service conditions. Junior Sergeant Serhiy Tyshchenko from the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade believes that setting a specific term for being on position and providing quality rest afterwards would significantly reduce the number of cases of unauthorized abandonment of the unit. He also emphasized the danger of entering a position for just a few days.

'Entering a position and leaving is very dangerous, and doing it for two or three days - is not a good idea.'

Tyshchenko shared instances when physically exhausted soldiers unlawfully left the unit due to prolonged stays on the front lines. He pointed out the need for a new mechanism to transfer soldiers to other units, as unauthorized departure remains a popular method for transferring to the desired unit.

Comment from the Military Ombudsman

Military Ombudsman Olha Reshetylova noted that some commanders use 'tricks' to attract valuable personnel by arranging temporary transfers through unauthorized departures from the unit and then returning the soldiers to the needed unit.

Reshetylova also explained what factors most often compel servicemen to leave the unit unlawfully.
