Hero of Ukraine Serhiy Tyshchenko on the devaluation of the award

Serhiy Tyshchenko, junior sergeant of the 30th separate mechanized brigade, who spent 471 consecutive days on the front line, stated that some people quickly receive the title of Hero of Ukraine, thereby devaluing it. He emphasized that this highest state award should be given only to those who truly deserve it.

“There are cases where two or three days on the front line and they already receive this title. This makes the award less valuable,” Tyshchenko noted.

He expressed hope that in the future only true heroes who have proven their dedication and courage in battle will be awarded.

Reaction to receiving the title of Hero of Ukraine

Serhiy Tyshchenko acknowledges that it is pleasant to be awarded, but he does not make a big fuss about it. During his vacation in the Pension Fund, he was already recognized as a Hero of Ukraine.

After receiving the award, many people approached him to thank him for his actions on the front line. Tyshchenko noted that his attitude changed after receiving the title of Hero.

Desertion and command's reaction

Serhiy Tyshchenko emphasized that receiving the status of Hero of Ukraine does not affect the leadership's attitude towards soldiers. He believes that with the establishment of a stable service and rest schedule, the number of desertions will decrease.

Tyshchenko acknowledged that he does not know who specifically recommended him for the award. However, after his story became known, it turned out that there were people who approached with a proposal to award the Hero of Ukraine.

The title of Hero of Ukraine should remain the highest state award and be awarded only to those who truly deserve it through their courage and endurance on the front line. Serhiy Tyshchenko believes that more attention should be paid to the selection of candidates for awards to avoid devaluation of this honor.
