Devotion and Ultimate Sacrifice
Stelmakh was killed in action on March 11, 2022, near the village of Sloboda-Kukharska in the Vyshhorod district of Kyiv Oblast. During the Russo-Ukrainian war, he commanded senior assault groups tasked with attacking enemy forces moving from Zhytomyr Oblast toward Kyiv Oblast. The primary objective of this operation was to sever enemy logistics and cut off reinforcements to the areas around the settlements of Kukhari, Sloboda-Kukharska, and Ivankiv.
Volodymyr Stelmakh died saving the lives of his fellow soldiers, an act for which he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine in 2023. He was laid to rest in his hometown of Rivne, where his memory is honored by all who knew him.
Volodymyr Stelmakh has become a symbol of courage and self-sacrifice in Ukraine's ongoing war for survival.
His heroism is a stark reminder of the price paid by service members for their country's peace and security, and of the importance of honoring those who gave their lives for freedom.
