Yurii Oleksandrovych Kovalchuk
May 15, 2026, marks what would have been the 28th birthday of Yurii Oleksandrovych Kovalchuk, a posthumously recognized Hero of Ukraine. Born on May 15, 1998, in the city of Kovel, located in the Volyn region, he tragically lost his life on May 23, 2022, near the village of Bilohorivka in the Sievierodonetsk district of Luhansk Oblast. He was laid to rest on May 27, 2022, in his hometown of Kovel.
Military Service and Acts of Heroism
Kovalchuk served as a soldier in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was an active participant in the Russo-Ukrainian war. He enlisted under contract in 2018 with the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Roman the Great, based in the city of Volodymyr, Volyn Oblast, and renewed his contract in 2021. He also took part in the Joint Forces Operation in eastern Ukraine. In 2023, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.
