Veteran Internship Selection Process
The NGO "Zvytiazhtsi," in partnership with Ukraine’s National Agency for Civil Service (NADU), has launched a competitive selection for state and local government institutions as part of the pilot initiative "Career Opportunities for Veterans in Public Service." This program aims to create internship placements for veterans interested in gaining experience within governmental bodies, while also providing training to selected institutions to ensure effective hosting of veteran interns.
Selected government agencies and local authorities will receive specialized training and the chance to organize internships tailored for veterans. This project is supported by IREX and the U.S. Department of State under the Ukraine Veterans Rehabilitation and Reintegration Program. Applications are accepted until October 8, 2026, via an online registration form.
Eligibility and Participation Details
Government entities from the following ten Ukrainian regions are invited to participate:
- Kyiv
- Vinnytsia
- Zhytomyr
- Khmelnytskyi
- Chernivtsi
- Ternopil
- Rivne
- Volyn
- Lviv
- Ivano-Frankivsk
- Zakarpattia
Each institution may submit only one application representing a team of two participants. Participation is free of charge; however, completing the internship does not guarantee employment, as hiring decisions remain subject to current legislation.
The program includes both online and in-person training focused on organizing veteran internships, provision of methodological resources, assistance in developing internal policies and internship plans, and support in preparing staff and mentoring programs. Participants will also receive ongoing advisory support throughout the internship preparation and implementation phases. For further inquiries, Anastasiia Stolyaryk, project assistant at NGO "Zvytiazhtsi," serves as the primary contact.
This initiative marks a significant advancement toward integrating veterans into civilian careers and public service roles.
Consistent internship opportunities help veterans transition smoothly into new professional environments by leveraging their skills and experiences. Involving veterans in governmental institutions not only enhances their job market competitiveness but also fosters a more inclusive society.
As the government continues to enhance support for veterans, recent initiatives have also included the extension of educational benefits for their children. This move aims to ease the financial burden on veteran families and ensure that the next generation has access to quality education.
