Product presentation at the Made by Google event
At the Made by Google event held on August 13, the company introduced the first Pixel Tag tracker, new Pixel 11 smartphones, and the Pixel Watch 5 smart watch. The Pixel Tag, positioned as an alternative to the Apple AirTag, costs $29 per unit and $99 for a set of four. The tracker operates on a replaceable CR2032 battery, has an IP67 rating, and provides ultra-wideband tracking (UWB).
Pixel Tag specifications
The Pixel Tag is released in one color — misty, with a metal front and a polycarbonate back panel. Its dimensions are 28 × 46.1 × 5.4 mm, and it weighs 11.8 grams with the battery and 8.8 grams without it. The front panel features the Google G logo and a small speaker that allows sound notifications to be activated. The tracker also has a removable plastic back cover and a battery compartment. One CR2032 battery lasts for more than a year. To work with the Pixel Tag, a phone with Android 9 or later is required, and for Bluetooth Channel Sounding — Android 16 or newer and support for Bluetooth 6.0.
In addition to the Pixel Tag, the event showcased the new Pixel 11 smartphones, which feature the Tensor G6 processor. According to the manufacturer, the new processor offers 20% better energy efficiency, speeds up web page loading by 25%, and increases application launch speed by 15% compared to its predecessor. Google also presented the Pixel Watch 5, available in 41 mm and 45 mm sizes, which runs on Wear OS 7 and includes Gemini Intelligence.
The Pixel Tag will enter the markets of Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East, highlighting the company's ambition to expand its technological offerings on a global scale.
The introduction of the Pixel Tag into Google's lineup demonstrates the growing competition in the tracker market, where the Apple AirTag already holds a significant share.
With the new Pixel 11 smartphones and the Pixel Watch 5, Google aims to strengthen its position in the mobile device and wearable electronics segments, responding to user demands for innovation and functionality. With the global launch in mind, the company seeks to attract a new audience and bolster its presence in the technology market.
