Introducing Early Access to Google Home’s MCP Server
Google has started rolling out early access to its new MCP server designed for the Google Home ecosystem. This platform enables AI agents to manage connected devices, review event histories, and interact with cameras using natural language commands. Currently, this feature is exclusive to Google Home Premium Advanced subscribers in the United States, with the initial deployment beginning on September 16, 2026.
Features and Supported AI Agents of the MCP Server
The MCP server allows users to control their smart home devices through conversational language. Supported AI assistants include:
- Claude
- Hermes
- OpenClaw
- ChatGPT
- Google Antigravity
To activate the service, users must create a project within Google Cloud and configure it to connect with Home MCP. Configuration details are then shared with the selected AI agent, which logs into the user’s Google account and requests the necessary permissions.
This system supports a wide range of Google Home devices, including doorbells, Google Nest thermostats, other Google Home-compatible gadgets, and Matter-standard devices like smart bulbs. Access to this feature is currently limited to subscribers of the Google Home Premium Advanced plan, priced at $20 per month. This subscription also offers benefits such as extended video history, detailed notifications, and enhanced camera event search capabilities.
The rollout will continue over several weeks, but Google has not yet announced when MCP server access will be available for other subscription tiers or regions. User feedback is actively being collected during this testing phase.
