In the very heart of the Carpathians, there is also quite a picturesque place. It is located around the waterfall: with a rather interesting name and no less interesting history. We are talking about the Hoverla Waterfall, the route to which is extremely popular.

This place is also famous for the mountains located nearby. It is a spot for recreation and active pursuits, as well as a location for beautiful photos. Each tourist will find plenty of entertainment near the waterfall.

Description of the Waterfall

Let’s start with what kind of water body this is: Hoverla Waterfall is one of the least known but at the same time extraordinarily picturesque natural monuments of the Carpathians. It is often referred to as a "hidden gem" of the mountains, as unlike more popular tourist spots, it has preserved a special atmosphere of wild nature and tranquility. Located at the foot of the highest peak in Ukraine – Hoverla, this waterfall attracts travelers looking for harmony with nature and wishing to see beauty that has not yet been spoiled by mass tourism. The streams of pure mountain water falling from rocky ledges create a feeling of freshness and power, while the surrounding forests and meadows add a particular charm to the landscape.

The Hoverla Waterfall originates from mountain streams fed by melting water and numerous springs flowing down from Hoverla. Its height reaches about 8-14 meters depending on the section, as it consists of several cascades falling over rocky terraces. The water here is extraordinarily clean, cold, and rich in minerals. Even on hot summer days, the temperature remains low, making swimming near the waterfall more of a hardening experience than entertainment.

In spring, when the snow melts, the streams become especially powerful and loud, creating the impression of an untamed element.

In summer, Hoverla Waterfall looks gentler, surrounded by lush greenery, flowering plants, and various herbs. In winter, it transforms into an ice composition covered with icicles and snow, creating an atmosphere of a true winter fairy tale. This is what has given the waterfall its popularity.

What to see near the waterfall?

Near Hoverla Waterfall, there are many interesting locations worth visiting. The most obvious of them is Mount Hoverla, the ascent of which is a true dream for many travelers. From the top, there is an incredible panorama of the Chornohora ridge, Svidovec, and even the Marmarosh mountains.

Also nearby is the high-altitude lake Nesamovite, known for its beauty and legends. Its shores are covered with alpine meadows that bloom in bright colors in summer.

Another intriguing attraction is the Chornohora Nature Reserve, where rare species of flora and fauna can be found, which are not found anywhere else in Ukraine. Brown bears, deer, roe deer, and numerous birds inhabit this area, with the plant world featuring endemic species.

For those interested in culture, a visit to the village of Vorokhta is worthwhile. Here, one can see ancient Hutsul churches, traditional wooden houses, and famous viaducts – railway bridges from the Austrian period.

Routes

More popular requests than photos of the waterfall are the routes to it. Several tourist routes lead to Hoverla Waterfall, differing in difficulty and duration. The most popular route begins from the village of Vorokhta, from where one can head towards Hoverla. Part of the trail passes through a forest, then leads to the mountain slopes, where there is a view of the waterfall. This route takes several hours but is relatively easy and accessible even for beginners.

Another path runs from the tourist base "Zaroslyak", located right under Hoverla. From here, the trail rises upwards, and along the way, one can see not only Hoverla Waterfall but also other picturesque spots, including mountain streams and glades.

Experienced tourists can choose longer routes along the Chornohora ridge, which include several peaks at once, with Hoverla Waterfall becoming one of the interesting points along the way. Such hikes usually last several days and require good physical fitness.

Myths and Legends about the Waterfall

However, her father, a wealthy nobleman, did not allow her to marry. In despair, the girl fled to the mountains and cried for so long that her tears turned into a stream, which eventually became the waterfall.
