The widow of a fallen Ukrainian serviceman will receive financial aid, although she was initially denied this right due to her Russian citizenship. The woman won in court and will still receive 15 million UAH in assistance, reports Zaxid.net citing information from 'Glavkom'.

The court's decision on receiving assistance

The plaintiff's husband died in August 2022 due to shelling by Russians in the Donetsk region. The court declared the Ministry of Defense's refusal to pay assistance unlawful, citing a Cabinet resolution, which does not provide for payments to citizens of Russia and Belarus. The court's decision can be appealed in the appellate court.

In addition, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law extending the deadline for the voluntary return of servicemen from the Eastern conflict zone. They will now be able to return until August 30, 2025.

The widow of the deceased serviceman will receive much-awaited funds from the government after winning in court and the Ministry of Defense's decision.
