The death of Colonel Ternovoy in 2015: how a prolonged battle allowed for the rescue of the wounded

Every day at 9 AM, Ukrainians honor the memory of those who died due to the war with Russia. Today we will remember Dmytro Ternovoy.


Dmytro Ternovoy died on February 10, 2015, during an ambush by terrorists near the village of Lohvynove in Donetsk region, where he was the head of the internal security department at the South-Western railway. As a result of the explosion, another police colonel and several other law enforcement officers also died.



Dmytro Ternovoy was born on May 17, 1969, in Chernihiv. He worked in the State Tax Service and was recognized for his dedication and professionalism. His great military experience and courage were posthumously recognized with the Order of 'For Courage' of the III degree.



The body of Dmytro Ternovoy remained in territory controlled by militants until the last days. Colleagues from law enforcement and military made great efforts to return the fallen colonel home.


On the day of the tragedy, Ukrainian law enforcement held the defense and engaged in battle with the terrorists, never giving up even while being wounded. They were rescued by the support of the military battalion 'Lviv' and the National Guard.



Dmytro Ternovoy is buried in his hometown of Chernihiv. The memory of him and other heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine is honored best of all by words.


Heroes do not die!



In this article, we honored the memory of Dmytro Ternovoy, who died while performing his official duties in the conflict zone in the East. His military feat and devotion will be remembered by colleagues, family, and all Ukrainians who appreciate sacrifice for the future of their state.
