Gaps in Western sanctions
The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has identified gaps in Western sanctions against the Russian military-industrial complex, particularly the 'Uralvagonzavod' concern, which has not been included in the sanctions lists. This discovery raises questions about the effectiveness of existing restrictions, as more than half of the concerns enterprises remain without any sanctions.
According to information, 41 enterprises are part of or managed by the armored holding 'Rostec'. Among them, 23 factories of the concern are not subjected to sanctions from any coalition country, which jeopardizes the efforts of the international community in combating Russian aggression. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022, the capacities of 'Uralvagonzavod' have focused on fulfilling the Kremlin's state defense order.
Products of the concern
Among the products manufactured at the enterprises of the concern, the following can be highlighted:
- T-72B3M tanks
- T-80BVM tanks
- T-90M tanks
- T-90MS 'Breakthrough' tanks
- Heavy flame systems TOS-1A 'Solntsepyok'
This situation indicates the need for a review and strengthening of sanctions against Russian enterprises that continue to operate without restrictions in the international market.
The identified gaps in the sanctions policy may significantly impact further support for Ukraine from Western countries that seek to increase pressure on Russia. The reaction of the international community to these findings will be important in the context of efforts to stop military aggression and enhance the effectiveness of existing sanctions, which may lead to a revision of approaches to combating the Russian military-industrial complex.
