Criticism of the Trump Administration
Former Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations Richard Haass criticized the Trump administration in the podcast Alternate Shots for rejecting Ukraine's aid proposals, calling it madness. He emphasized that Ukraine should build closer ties, as this country produces about 6 million drones a year, while the US struggles to produce even 6 thousand drones annually.
Haass noted that Kyiv plans to release over 7 million drones in 2026, and President Volodymyr Zelensky even mentioned a goal of 10 million drones with the possibility of doubling. According to Bloomberg, the US currently produces about 100 thousand combat drones a year. In this context, Haass believes that creating cheap mass drone systems should become the Pentagon's main priority.
Cooperation Priorities with Ukraine
He also pointed out that Saudi Arabia has already signed a franchise agreement with Kyiv, which can serve as an example for other countries. Haass emphasized that the state of the US arsenal is scandalous, and both parties, several administrations, Congress, and defense contractors are to blame. He expressed concern over the insufficient number of Patriot systems for Ukraine, noting that it is impossible to quickly ramp up their production.
'We should have built some relations with Ukraine. For months, reports have emerged that this administration has opposed Ukrainian aid proposals. This is madness. We should be begging Ukraine.', Richard Haass
In his opinion, the priority should not only be the production of drones but also strengthening cooperation with Ukraine in the defense sector.
Richard Haass's comments highlight the importance of developing cooperation between the US and Ukraine, especially in the context of drone technologies that are becoming key in modern conflicts. Drone production in Ukraine and the possibility of franchises could become strategic assets for both countries, strengthening their defense capabilities. Haass calls for more active support for Ukraine, which could influence the future US policy regarding defense spending and international collaboration in this area.
In light of Haass's remarks, it's crucial to understand how Ukraine has adapted its military strategies, particularly in drone warfare. Recent insights from a British historian reveal innovative tactics employed by Ukraine to leverage its drone capabilities effectively. This evolution in combat strategy underscores the urgency for enhanced collaboration between the US and Ukraine, especially in the realm of drone technology.
