Strikes Target Kharkiv and Kyiv
In the early hours of January 24, the city of Kharkiv came under a concentrated assault by Iranian-made 'Shahed' attack drones. The strikes primarily targeted the Industrial District, with additional damage reported in the Nemyshlyanskyi District. At least 11 people were injured in the attack.
Six individuals were wounded in the Industrial District. In the Nemyshlyanskyi District, one of the injured was a homeowner who suffered a direct hit on her residence. The assault damaged residential buildings, including apartment blocks and private homes, a dormitory for internally displaced persons, a hospital, and a maternity ward.
Emergency Services Respond
Emergency crews, medics, and rescue personnel are on the scene providing aid to the victims. These attacks on civilian infrastructure represent a severe escalation in tactics. That same night, Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, was also attacked, with reports indicating one person killed and four injured there.
The simultaneous strikes on Kharkiv and Kyiv occurred amid a recent intensification of hostilities across Ukraine, highlighting the ongoing conflict's severe toll on civilian areas. The targeting of residential zones, medical facilities, and shelters underscores the grave dangers faced by non-combatants. Emergency services continue their efforts to assist the wounded and clear the aftermath of the attacks.
