The Situation in the Kharkiv Region
Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, provided a stark update during a visit to the Kharkiv region. He reported that since the start of 2026, Russian forces have carried out nearly 740 attacks on the area. The region remains under relentless assault, with half of these strikes conducted by drones.
These attacks have resulted in the deaths of 62 people, including 5 children, and have damaged over 1,200 civilian structures. Daily, more than 500 emergency service personnel and 150 units of State Emergency Service equipment are deployed to combat duty to manage the aftermath of the shelling. Minister Klymenko also presented state and departmental awards to rescuers in recognition of their dedicated work under wartime conditions.

The situation in Kharkiv Oblast remains critical, with drone strikes and other bombardments inflicting severe damage on civilian infrastructure and lives. The ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine has made this region, near the Russian border, a frequent target.
