In the center of Kherson, local residents grow vegetables right on protective structures - gabions made of metal nets filled with sand and stones. These gabions were originally created to protect against shell fragments, but now they have become a true oasis for gardening. According to 'Glavkom' and 'Suspilne', tomatoes, parsley, sweet peppers, pumpkins, and zucchini thrive in these unusual beds. One local resident, Pavel Shulzhenko, along with his friends, is responsible for taking care of the plants: having put in certain efforts to create optimal conditions for vegetable growth, they have gathered a rich harvest.
During the conversation, Pavel mentioned that he intends to plant watermelons on the gabions in the future. It is also noted that food prices in Ukraine are approaching the levels of prices in neighboring countries, and crop losses due to spring frosts may affect inflation. At the same time, the National Bank expects a good grain harvest of about 61.7 million tons. Overall, Ukraine remains one of the countries that can independently provide its population with food, while other countries need external support.
This news is an example of how residents clearly demonstrate their ingenuity and responsibility by growing vegetables in unexpected places, as well as how important it is to monitor the harvest and pricing trends in the food sector.
