Sharp Temperature Drop Expected Across Ukraine on May 28 as Cold Front Arrives

Охолодження в Україні 28 травня: синоптики прогнозують різке падіння температури.

Ukraine Weather Outlook: Late May and Early June Forecast

Cooler conditions will dominate Ukraine through the end of the week, but warmer weather is set to return at the start of June. Meteorologist Natalka Didenko has released a forecast for late May and early June, pointing to significant temperature shifts across the country.

On May 28, Ukraine will find itself in the wake of a cold atmospheric front. 'Tomorrow, May 28, Ukraine will be positioned behind a cold atmospheric front. As a result, some residual rain may still fall, but precipitation will be light and isolated. Following the cold front, cold air will spread across the region, causing a noticeable drop in temperatures—daytime highs of +15 to +19°C, with southern areas reaching +20 to +23°C,' Didenko explained.

In Kyiv, temperatures on May 28 are expected to fall to +15°C, accompanied by strong northwesterly winds. Cool weather will persist across Ukraine through the remainder of the week. However, a warming trend is anticipated at the beginning of June. 'Cool weather will dominate Ukraine until the end of the week, but at the start of June—just in time for the premiere of summer—temperatures will rise again,' the forecaster added.

Hazardous Weather in Ukraine and Record Heat in Europe

On May 27, a yellow-level danger warning (Level I) was issued across Ukraine due to wind gusts of 15–20 m/s. Thunderstorms are also forecast for central and southern regions, as well as the Carpathian foothills that same day.

Meanwhile, Europe is experiencing extreme heat: temperatures in France, Spain, Germany, and the United Kingdom are significantly above normal, with some parts of Spain approaching nearly +40°C. The UK has broken a temperature record that had stood for over 100 years.

This stark contrast between Ukraine's cooler weather and the record-breaking heat elsewhere in Europe highlights the growing variability in climatic conditions. The expected warming in Ukraine at the start of June underscores the need for adaptation to such shifts, especially as risks from extreme weather events increase. Given this, residents of Ukraine should stay prepared for possible weather fluctuations in the coming days.

As Ukraine braces for a significant temperature drop, it's worth noting similar weather patterns in recent weeks. For instance, the frost and wet snow that hit on April 29 raised questions about when warmer temperatures would finally arrive.
