Zlatko Dalić Leaves His Role as National Team Manager
The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) has confirmed that Zlatko Dalić is stepping down as head coach of the Croatian national team. Dalić took charge in October 2017, and his first match was in Kyiv against Ukraine during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. Under his leadership, the team achieved remarkable success on the global stage.
Major Achievements Under Dalić
Dalić guided Croatia to the 2018 World Cup final, one of the greatest accomplishments in the nation’s football history. The team later secured a bronze medal at the 2022 World Cup. However, at the 2026 World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Croatia was eliminated in the round of 16 after a defeat to Portugal.
During his tenure, Dalić managed 111 matches, recording 57 wins, 26 draws, and 28 losses. The HNS released an official statement acknowledging his contributions:
“Head coach, thank you for everything—for the victories, achievements, qualifications, medals, unity, respect, and your unwavering commitment to fighting for Croatia both on and off the pitch. The results speak to your coaching qualities. The respect you earned among players, staff, and opponents says a great deal about you as a person.”
Dalić’s departure marks a new chapter for Croatia’s national team as it looks to build on its legacy and reach new heights in international football. This transition could prove pivotal for Croatian football, as a new coach will have the opportunity to introduce fresh ideas and tactics that may benefit the team in upcoming tournaments. Additionally, a change at the helm could intensify competition among players, potentially raising the overall level of performance.
The departure of Zlatko Dalić as head coach of Croatia's national team is reminiscent of the challenges faced by other national squads in similar situations. For instance, Ukraine's national hockey team is currently navigating a coaching gap as they prepare for their elite division campaign. Such transitions often lead to uncertainty, but they also present opportunities for renewal and growth within the teams.
