The Ministry of Justice explained that obtaining victim status for a child as a result of military actions has its own rules. This status can be granted to minors who have suffered from violence or trauma during military actions:

  • physical or sexual violence;

  • kidnapping or illegal deportation outside Ukraine;

  • illegal detention or captivity;

  • psychological violence and others.

To obtain this status, it is necessary to contact the local child welfare service. This can be done by a legal representative of the child, the child themselves from the age of 14, representatives of the guardianship authority, relatives, etc.

Required documents and benefits of the status

Together with the application, copies of documents verifying the identity of the child and the applicant, documents confirming family ties or authority, consent for the processing of personal data, as well as additional documents that confirm the injuries and suffering of the child due to military actions must be submitted.

By obtaining this status, the child can benefit from free meals at state and communal educational institutions, receive benefits for rehabilitation and psychological assistance in accordance with the legislation.

By utilizing the legal mechanism for obtaining child victim status as a result of military actions, Ukrainian children can receive support and additional resources to improve their well-being after traumatic experiences.
