Introducing Huawei’s Latest MateBook Pro S Laptop
On September 8, Huawei revealed its newest ultra-lightweight 14-inch MateBook Pro S laptop. Weighing a mere 798 grams, this model ranks among the lightest laptops available today. Powered by the Kirin XE90 processor and equipped with a flexible OLED screen, the device runs on HarmonyOS 6.1 and is currently exclusive to the Chinese market. Its closest rival is the Acer Swift Blade 14, which weighs 799 grams and is built around Intel’s 7th generation Core processors.

The MateBook Pro S comes in four distinct editions:

- Soft Light
- Privacy
- Collector’s Edition
The Standard and Privacy models each weigh 798 grams, while the Soft Light version is slightly heavier at 805 grams, and the Collector’s Edition tips the scales at 825 grams. Thickness varies as well, with the base models measuring 11.9 mm and the Collector’s Edition at 12.2 mm. The laptop’s display boasts a 3.1K resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, 1000 nits of typical brightness, and peaks at an impressive 1600 nits.
Its 54 Wh battery supports up to 18 hours of video playback. The Kirin XE90 processor is based on a 7nm SMIC manufacturing process and consumes up to 20 watts of power. Huawei claims this chip delivers a 23% boost in single-core performance, 25% better energy efficiency, and 40% higher neural processor throughput compared to the standard Kirin X90—though these figures have yet to be independently verified.
The chassis is crafted from a magnesium-lithium alloy, complemented by magnesium and aluminum components. Cooling is handled via a dual-fan system with Shark Fin blades. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7+ with a range extending up to 1000 meters in open spaces, and a six-microphone array capable of capturing audio from as far as 10 meters. Pricing in China starts at 7,999 yuan, roughly equivalent to $1,200 USD.
