Weather Situation in Ukraine
A significant snowfall and ice slick are observed in Ukraine, complicating movement on the roads. On January 8, meteorologists predict a blizzard, which may lead to an increase in the number of road accidents. In light of these weather conditions, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) urges drivers to be cautious and take appropriate safety measures.
Rescuers are actively working in various regions of the country, providing assistance to those in difficult situations. In particular, on the Kyiv - Chop highway, rescuers freed vehicles that were stuck in snowdrifts. Also, in the Stryi district of Lviv region, medics received assistance to deliver help to a patient, made possible by the efforts of rescuers.
SES Recommendations
In light of the announced II level of danger, orange, SES recommends that drivers adhere to certain rules. Service employees advise:
- to have a shovel and a tow rope in the car for getting out of a snow trap;
- winter windshield washer and a full tank of fuel for heating the cabin in case of a stop;
- to take care of having reflectors that will make them noticeable to other road users;
- to have warmth supplies such as a thermos with tea, a blanket, or a thermal blanket;
- to have a means of communication such as a power bank and offline maps.
SES urges citizens: 'If you see a warning about a blizzard or ice slick – stay at home.'
Emergency service units are operating around the clock and are ready to respond to emergency situations, ensuring the safety of citizens.
The current meteorological conditions in Ukraine raise concerns due to potential impacts on road traffic and safety.
