Casualties in the media and cultural sector due to Russia's invasion

Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the war has taken the lives of 232 artists and 113 Ukrainian and foreign media workers. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.

'This data not only speaks to the scale of the losses but also reminds us of the tragic chapters of our history. Just as in the 1920s and early 1930s the Stalinist regime destroyed a generation of Ukrainian artists, today Russia is deliberately annihilating the cultural elite of Ukraine,' the agency emphasized.

  • Journalists currently working in Ukraine create important news, investigations, and reports under heightened risk.

  • They document the events of the war to provide Ukraine and the world with accurate information about what is happening.

Media workers gather irrefutable evidence of the occupiers' crimes around the clock and highlight the strength, heroism, and courage of our defenders, noted the Ministry.

'The systematic crimes against journalists and media committed by Russia pose a serious threat to freedom of speech and information security, undermining democratic values and human rights'

Reports of the large number of casualties among artists and media workers due to the war initiated by Russia in Ukraine indicate serious damage to the country's cultural and information sectors. Journalists and artists heroically perform their duties on the front lines, providing objective information about military events and the crimes of the occupiers.
