Service of foreigners in the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Foreigners in the Armed Forces of Ukraine have the opportunity to serve on a voluntary basis, receiving legal protection, financial support, and social guarantees. By signing a contract, a foreign national receives the status of a serviceman, allowing them to enjoy rights similar to those of Ukrainian citizens.
Financial support and social guarantees
Financial support for foreigners in the Armed Forces is on par with that of Ukrainian servicemen. This includes allowances for service under martial law. The social guarantees received by foreigners include:
- provision of uniforms,
- food,
- housing.
According to Law No. 4019-IX, foreigners have the right to hold officer positions, and military ranks obtained in their country of origin are recognized in the Ukrainian army.
Service under contract also opens the way to immigration and obtaining a residence permit in Ukraine. Immigration rights extend not only to the servicemen themselves but also to their family members. This allows foreigners not only to fulfill their military duty but also to create a new life in Ukraine.
This initiative could significantly impact the replenishment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, especially in the context of the ongoing war. Involving foreigners in military service not only increases the army's numbers but can also strengthen Ukraine's international ties.
Moreover, the possibility of obtaining a residence permit creates additional incentives for foreigners to consider Ukraine as a new home.
