Russia May Be Planning a Radiological Attack in Ukraine, War Experts Warn

Експерти вважають, що Москва може приготувати небезпечний крок, використовуючи радіологічну зброю в Україні.

Warning of a Radiological Incident

The U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War has issued a warning that Russia is likely preparing to stage a radiological incident on Ukrainian territory. This alarming assessment comes as Russian leadership has intensified information operations aimed at discrediting Ukraine, spreading accusations that Kyiv is preparing to use a so-called 'dirty bomb'.

Russia is conducting intense strikes against Ukraine's nuclear energy infrastructure, repeatedly attacking Ukrainian atomic power stations and their supporting facilities. These Russian attacks on such targets risk triggering a radiological incident. Furthermore, Russian intelligence has circulated a claim that Western countries, specifically Great Britain and France, are assisting Ukraine in creating a 'dirty bomb'. Such a device uses conventional explosives to disperse radioactive material, causing contamination and panic.

The Critical Need for an International Response

It is important to note that Russian intelligence has previously disseminated false information about Ukraine preparing a 'dirty bomb', developing biological weapons, and about Britain planning provocations at Ukrainian nuclear plants. Official Kyiv and European capitals have repeatedly refuted these allegations.

The Institute for the Study of War notes that the situation remains tense, and further Russian actions could have serious consequences for regional security.

Given the current situation, it is vital to consider that Russian information campaigns may be used to justify further aggressive actions, including attacks on critically important facilities. The international community continues to monitor developments closely, as potential radiological incidents could have not only local but global consequences.

The situation in Ukraine remains at the forefront of world politics, underscoring the necessity of preserving security and stability in the region.
