Iran: hospitals overcrowded with wounded due to brutal repression of protests

У лікарнях Ірану критична ситуація: медперсонал бореться з напливом постраждалих унаслідок масових протестів.

Mass protests in Iran

Mass protests continue in Iran, accompanied by brutal repression by security forces. This leads to a significant number of injuries and fatalities, as well as a critical situation in hospitals. Hospitals in Tehran, Shiraz, and other cities are overcrowded with patients suffering from gunshot wounds, putting medical facilities under serious strain.

Medical institutions are experiencing a critical shortage of blood for transfusions, further complicating the provision of assistance to the injured. Most of the deceased have bullet wounds to the head and neck, indicating the brutality of the security actions. In particular, the Farabi Eye Hospital in Tehran recorded an abnormal influx of patients — between 200 and 500 individuals — with eye injuries.

Situation in the country

According to the human rights agency HRANA, at least 65 people have been killed in the past two weeks, and the number of arrests has exceeded 2300 individuals. Consequently, the situation in the country raises concerns not only locally but also at an international level.

The situation remains tense, and hospitals continue to face new challenges amid mass protests.

The situation in Iran is a result of prolonged social tension and dissatisfaction with the political regime. The mass protests that have erupted indicate deep-seated problems in society, particularly regarding human rights and access to medical services. The support of the international community may influence the further development of events, but given the brutality of security forces, it can be expected that protests will continue to flare up in the near future.
